I interviewed last week for a position in another music school. Their piano teacher went in for surgery on her wrist, and is going to be out for a few weeks, so they're pretty desperate for a replacement. It pays more than the other place, but I'm not thinking of replacing the old one; this is just a supplement. I also like that it's in Wellington, which is the area I'm planning on moving once I get my own place. So that's good.

I'm very happy about it.

Week in Review

Proudest Moment: Replacing computer desk and cleaning my bedroom. Hooray!

New Movies Seen: Once, Raising Arizona, No Country For Old Men, and There Will Be Blood.

Hours Worked (Earning Money; does not include household chores): 30. Seemed like more. But I guess that explains how I had so much time to watch movies. Huh.

Hours Spent Practicing Piano: about 10, maybe?

Laundry Done, In Loads: 4

Books Read: None

Bills Paid: 2, car and car insurance

Number of Times Dined Out: 1

Tanks of Gas Bought: 1

That's all I can think of. I was going to do a "Happiest Moment," and more along those lines, but I couldn't remember enough specific moments. My short-term memory is really bad.

My current favorite song is At Least I'm Not Like All Those Other Old Guys, by Five Iron Frenzy. Lyrics under the cut )

Another one I like is "So Far, So Bad," also by Five Iron Frenzy Again with the lyrics under the cut )

Heehee!

I'm so upset. My copy of Elisabeth is all scratched up, and not even my mp3s will play without skipping anymore. I really don't want to have to buy it again. :(

Help!

I got gift cards to iTunes for Christmas amounting to $50, which is great, but I have no idea what to buy, or even where to start! I've been looking at podcasts, but those are free, so I've still made zero progress.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

(And btw, yes, this does mean that I am finally the proud and happy owner of my very own iPod. Whee!)

I had a dream last night that Ron Weasley was going to die in the next HP book, and I only just now realized it wasn't real. That happens surprisingly often with me: I dream something weird, and it takes me awhile to realize it wasn't real. I'd love to be able to find out how Ron Weasley got into my dream to begin with, but that's as far as my dream memory will take me.

I was listening to music in the car this morning, and suddenly realized I'm in a terribly sort of "I want to wallow in over-emotional hogwash for awhile" mood. I think it was the combination of Jennifer Knapp and Linkin Park. But it got me to thinking of fanfic.

I wish I were capable of illustrating the link in my brain between over-emotional music and fanfiction at the moment, but I think my brain is fried.

I think I'm in desperate need of stimulation. Even the over-emotional kind.

My last final of the year is tomorrow. Yay!

NYC was fantastic. We got back Sunday night and I'm still not over it, wishing I was still there, etc. My sibs and I met David, my longtime internet buddy, on Friday and basically just hung out around Time Square all day, with a brief detour to Central Park. Nicole bought me a copy of the Sweeney Todd revival recording, which I've been listening to ever since we got home. Then that evening, after David went home, we saw a preview of Les Miserables.

Review of Les Mis, for those who care. You know who you are. )

The next day, we decided to tackle the subway system, with .... not a lot of success. Let's just say that London was way easier. We were able to get around, eventually, but we were mostly confused. Anyway, we walked around Greenwich Village and Chinatown. Most of the time was in Greenwich Village --- stores just kept popping out at us, and there was a very embarrassing segment wherein we couldn't figure out that we kept going in and coming out and going back into the exact same subway platform. *blushes*

That evening, we saw Phantom of the Opera. My brother bought my ticket, because I didn't want to spend money on another show, but I didn't want to be left behind, either, and he owed me a birthday present. *g*

Review of Phantom, if anybody cares. )

There were a few disagreements over what to do, mostly because some of us preferred to just walk around and soak everything in, whereas the others would have liked to do some actual sightseeing. As it turned out, we just didn't have enough time to see everything.

We're already planning our next trip.

my sibs and I are going to NYC next weekend for a couple days. We'll be flying in Thursday night and out Sunday afternoon. It's a really hare-brained adventure, but hey, we're young. ;)

We're going to be meeting a friend for breakfast and seeing a show in the evening (Les Miserables for the 40th time) on Friday, but other than that, we have no idea what to do in the short time we're there. So if anybody has any ideas, I'd be interested to hear them. *g*

Guess the song!

from [livejournal.com profile] carthia
1. Take the lyrics to a favorite song (make sure it's relatively well-known).
2. Go to Google Language Tools and translate the lyrics into German; then from German to French; and finally from French back into English.
3. Post the results verbatim.
4. Invite your friends to guess the song based on the newly mangled lyrics.

*giggle* )

(I don't know how many of my flist listen to this type of music, but I think it's worth pointing out that I typed the chorus out each time it's sung, and each time it's translated differently.)

I'm tired.

Spring break! W00t!

Also, I am currently in love with two songs: It Ain't Me, Babe by Johnny Cash & June Carter, and Make Believe, by Conway Twitty. These songs make me smile, even when I'm too sleepy to go to bed.

Ew! ABC gum on a saucer on my desk right in front of me!

I ramble when I'm tired. Can you believe I was going to make a post that was only two words?

Saw Walk the Line last night. Was very good. Johnny + June = OTP OMG.

I'm depressed. I now have even less money than I did when I complained about having no money the other day. Also, Tropical Storm Gamma (!!) is now threatening South Florida, and may come just in time to wreck my favorite holiday. And my car is still incapacitated.

The mechanic was supposed to come today to fix it, but nope. Couldn't do it.

On the upside, at least I don't have to write a paper for two weeks, thanks to the holiday.

Step 1: Get your playlist together, put it on random, and play.
Step 2: Write down the first line from the first 20 songs that play or close to it.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

Okay, so I finally took the time to read the P&P3-relevant posts on Fandom Wank. Hee! Resisted a slight urge to respond to something-or-other, which is good, because now I can't even remember what it was. Whenever something Austen-y ends up over there, though, I always end up reading the posts, wondering "Who's that? Do I know her?"

Interestingly, nobody over there seems to know how to spell Macfadyen.

Yesterday my sisters and I went (by ourselves! I drove! whee!) to see Miss Saigon. We went early in case we got lost, but it turned out the show started an hour later than we thought. So we took the trolley around CityPlace a couple times, and stopped at the grocery store to buy Kleenex and get cash so Nicole could buy a program.

The show was wonderful. Was not prepared for the set, blocking, and lyric changes, though. Some of the songs were extended, especially "What a Waste." When did that happen? Or am I insane and it was just shortened for the recording and I don't remember? Anyway, overall, I think it was an improvement, but I missed the Cadillac. And the creepy Ho Chi Minh statue.

"Morning of the Dragon" was, I think, the definite highlight. And I *adored* Kim's delivery of the line "Chris will come to me like the Phoenix and he'll take me up on his wings!" Very defiant, spunky Kim. And her voice was even somewhat similar to Lea Salonga's, so there wasn't much of a jarring effect as far as trying not to think of the original recording. And of course, no "oreeenge" from Chris. *g*

Also, it's time I confess that, similar to my crazy, sick love for Montparnasse, I have always really liked Thuy. As a character, mind you! The actor last night was very good. Not Asian, though, at least, he didn't look Asian. Kind of strange, but we weren't really close enough for that to be a problem. Don't think it would have been a problem, anyway, since he *was* a very good actor.

After the show, the actors all took their bows, as usual --- standing ovation, and so on. Then, as people began to file out, the "Engineer" (don't have the program handy to look up the actor's name. Kim was Laurie something-or-other. Cadevida?) asked for our attention and brought some guy up onstage. This guy then proceeded to call his girlfriend up on stage, and, in a very sweet, bumbling way, asked her to marry him. Now of course, if you ask your girlfriend to marry you in front of hundreds of people, there's not much chance she's going to refuse. But when she started talking, it sounded like she was going to say no. "You're a great guy, I'm very grateful to you," and so on. But then she bent over (he was down on one knee, obviously) and said, "Yes, darling, I will marry you." And the audience let out a sigh of relief.

*giggle* I never thought I'd actually see that happen.

So we're going on Saturday to look at some used money pits, I mean cars. Oh gosh. I can't wait. [/sarcasm]

I'm bored and I'm grumpy. None of my usual "activities" appeal to me at the moment, and nothing's happening for me to watch.

I was up very late last night trying to find lyrics for the Queen of the Night aria from The Magic Flute. Finally found them and was satisfied. Then I got caught up reading the lyrics to Elisabeth -- naturally, since it happened to come up on my computer, I had to sing along, especially for Die Schatten Werden Langer and Boote in der Nacht, and it's kind of silly to sing along if you don't understand the words. So yeah. Anyway, now I really want to learn German.

Fun is cranking Anthony Warlow's "The World Has Gone Insane" at high volume and singing aloud at the top of your voice, competing with your sister for wildest antics.

It's also good if you can find an unworn pair of pants in your drawer and discover that they make your posterior look really, really good.

Got a request for BL in the Tea Room. Makes me feel good. *warm fuzzies*

Other things that happened today, in no particular order:

1. My sisters' crushes came over today so my sisters could dye one of the boys' hair. He is joining the Marines in a couple months, and thought he'd dye his hair pink one last time before joining.

2. Had my Composition final. Hope I didn't screw it up too badly. Hated my teacher, so am glad it's over, even if I don't get a good grade.

3. Went over my piano repertoire on the keyboard. It just isn't the same. But I think I've said that before.

4. My sisters forced my dad to watch Sweeney Todd. He didn't like it.

5. It rained really hard. Made the house so much more comfortable.

How much do I hate that it's Saturday? All piano stores are closed. And I had just made the decision to call someone to have my piano tuned and repaired. You see, I could deal with it being a little bit out of tune; my pitch isn't so perfect that the slightest offness hurts my ears, unfortunately. But once the sustain pedal (or whatever it's called; I'm horrible with official names of things) stopped working, I couldn't bear it. Beethoven doesn't sound right without the sustain. Basically the only thing I can play without sustain is Bach, because his stuff was composed pre-pianoforte, and harpsichords didn't have dynamics, so they sound fine that way. All this to say I haven't played piano in about a month now, and I'm going crazy! I even tried using my dad's keyboard instead, but that just made it worse. The touch is totally different, and the keys aren't even the same size, my fingers got all confused. :(

*bites pillow*

ETA: In better news, I got an A on my economics test. Was very surprised; I was crossing my fingers for a B. My dad said I could choose the dinner tonight to celebrate, but he ended up getting KFC anyway. Oh, well.
