I feel like posting, I guess.

So my sisters and I are apartment hunting. We'd prefer something in the Royal Palm Beach/Wellington area, because it's close to (almost) everything we do. We went yesterday to look at a place, but we didn't like it. Despite being cheap and having bedrooms of more-or-less equal size (a definite plus when no one of us has the clear advantage), it was also very small, dingy, and claustrophobic.

Weird that it could be small and claustrophobic -- the suffocating effect was really more from the way the building was situated than the actual size of the unit. I wouldn't mind smallness, as long as it was open.

So anyway, there's all this exciting stuff going on, and I have no idea where to begin, but I think I'm going to start posting again as if I'd never stopped, and pretend like everybody knows what I'm talking about. ;)

Right now my siblings, except for Renae, are at a Christian rock concert in Orlando. I didn't go because I wasn't really interested in driving three hours one way to see the one band I would have liked to see. The house is very quiet without them, but it's a nice break from the constant bickering that's been going on lately.

In other news, Hurricane Ike is now projected to hit Miami. The idea of evacuating 4.2 million people is mind-boggling. Hopefully West Palm Beach will dodge the brunt of the hit. Although we'll probably be without power for a few days, anyway. My mom's very happy to have planned her vacation so perfectly.

A nice quiet evening at home sounds like heaven.

Good-luck with the apartment hunting!!! I know what a pain it can be, but when you find that oh-so-perfect place, all that trouble seems to melt away and then you're home. Hope it happens sooner rather than later for you!

I can't wait to find a place. I'm starting to get over the "oh my god I have to move out on my own now!" panic, and I'm going into "oh hooray I finally get to be on my own" excitement. *g*

You talk about hurricanes so blithely! They seem rather terrifying from over here, so hope all goes well.

Is there a rental crisis where you're looking? That can make availability of places much more difficult, but don't give up!

Well, 2005 was a pretty big hurricane year -- we got three or four within a couple months, and that was just in our area. Then of course 2006 was big for other parts of Florida and the Gulf Coast, with Katrina and Ivan, and West Palm Beach got Wilma, so yeah, they have become a bit passe. Heh.

Which isn't to say they're not scary when they're bearing right down on you -- especially the really big ones, as Ike appears to be. But as of now, it doesn't look like we'll be getting as much of it as Miami or Cuba will. Of course, that could all change if it takes a turn, but that remains to be seen.

I don't think there's a rental crisis going on. I'm not a real estate expert, but the foreclosure rate has been so high I'm kind of surprised there isn't more availability. I've been watching rentals for a few months now, though, and it does seem like there are fewer places available now than there were a month ago. But that's probably due to the snowbird effect -- all the northerners starting to come down to Florida for the winter -- more than anything else.

Hugs in finding a place. I know what you mean about small and claustrophic. My place is tiny but its not clastrobic becaus the ktichen & Room that is not the bedroom are oepn, so its basically a 3metre by six metre room. (and then bedroom, bathroom and laudnry)

And crosses fingers re hurricane/cyclone.

Thanks. I remain optimistic. I have at least a month to settle on a place.

The new report has Ike probably going over Cuba and the Florida Keys, into the Gulf of Mexico, but there's still the possibility it could directly hit South Florida.

Sometimes I hate the Cone of Uncertainty. LOL

Yay! Post away!

I should probably know this, but how many sisters do you have?

I have three sisters -- Nicole, Renae, and Christiana.

Nicole is moving with my parents and our brother, Trevor, to Detroit. Renae and Christi are staying here with me.
